!!FIXED!! white screen.....psone screen !!FIXED!!

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

!!FIXED!! white screen.....psone screen !!FIXED!!

Post by snow »

i was working on my psone screen andit was working fine...then i turned it on about 5 min later and all i had done was disconnect and reconnect a wire on my snes board i was checking to make sure everyhting was still working...then my screen only displayed white...just blank white...i started touching the back of the mobo to see if i maybe grounded something between my fingers if it would solve it...i finally got a flicker of something and then if i touched just the right components it would show a perfect picture if i kept my fingers there...i jsut cannot understand what happened..has anyone else had this happen?

i will try to describe where i was touvhing because i still don't know how to fix this... i don't have a digital camera but if you are looking at the back of the mobo it is the cluster of parts to the top right of the screen...there is a printed diagram and below that is a pair of brown things that are slightly bigger than the rest...then directly below those is another pair of the same brown things...if i touch the second pair and a tin chip looking thing labeled DP2 (i think) just the right way it will work...but if i am even slightly off then i will ont...im not even sure if these are the things im touching but it was my closest estimate...is there anything i could solder to make my screen work again...any help is appreciated....thanks

Make sure the brown cable coming out of the back of the screen is plugged into the mobo, if it is, check if it's broken or cracked anywhere

white screen is the worst thing that can happen (other than cosmetic stuff) to PSone screens because that means the LCD isn't getting a signal. try poking around to see if you can fix it, that's probably the only way.

sorry i was typing this earlier and my comp decided to crash....

anyways i finally fixed my white screen problem on my psone screen...it was rather simple actually...i have no idea if this has any long term effects becuase i had it on for maybe 5 min total...

as i said ealier i was touching the back of the mobo and figured out that my screen could still get a signal if i grounded the right things out with my fingers...i just couldn't narrow it down to a small enough area to start soldering...well today i tried it again and i got it down to about 5 or 6 different pins that i was touching...i was getting so angry at why it just randomly stopped working that i decided to just solder a wire in and see if it solved anything...and it actually did...i have perfect picture now like i used to

heres a pic that i took of what to solder...i would only try this as a last resort kinda thing...i won't gaurentee that it won't screw up more stuff...maybe someone does??? anyways heres the pic

sorry its kinda fuzzy but i think you can figure out what to do...

the top of the picture is the left side of the board if you have it turned the right way...so the right is actually the top...if you have any more questions i will try to answer them

EDIT: I jsut played about 30 min of super mario rpg and everything is still looking fine and there is no excessive heat on that part...so looks like it may be an ok fix with no other damage!

Did you just jump that capactior? It might have broke. You might want to consider replacing it, but you'll probably be ok leaving it.

You DID jump the capacitor right? With the 2 grey wires going out of the picture?

You're probably ok leaving it how it is. May I suggest jumping the capacitor with a small piece of bare wire over the top and solder it to both sides on the top of the capacitor instead of using long wires. It's neater, and much less prone to breakage seeing as how it won't be wiggling.

even better: just put a dab of solder on taop that touches both ends, it can't get snagged on anything and it's the easiest way.

That's kinda what i meant, but some kinds of solder don't "stretch" well, (for lack of a better word) and forms little balls. So you use a bit of metal or wire for the solder to stick to.
