I've had to use a lot of Macs and I have used OS X before, and yeah it's pretty good, I like it. But there's hardly any software compatible, I can't use like 90% of the applications I can on a PC.Black Six wrote:Nicholai, if you hate Macs so much then just don't post in threads about Apple computers. Back to the MacBooks, they look pretty sweet, I'm just mad they switched to the integrated graphics like they did with the mini. I'm sure they'll still sell well, and they'll work fine for their target market. I'm keeping my PowerMac G5 though, hehe.

And as everyone knows, intel macs are 100% compatible with all xp software. You just have to install xp.
Stop pissing me off Nicholai. When you quoted Black Six above, you TOTALLY ignored the part telling you to shut up.Black Six wrote:Nicholai, if you hate Macs so much then just don't post in threads about Apple computers. Nicholal, you do know that OS X as a result of being built on the Mach kernel it can run universal binaries, and as Macs are Intel they should be able to run many Windows programs under the sytem. Windows XP on it is just a novelty really, it was done by an Open Source group that ended up being brought into Apple.
And really if you're going to keep complaining that you don't like Macs, then don't read this thread. No one is forcing you to read and no one is forcing you to reply.

ive never used a mac (unless you count the original, but it was on that for like 10 minutes
) and probably wont until i have a need for one
I understand that Mac's are better at somethings (i forget what they are right now) but it all boils down to being able to play games, thats all i use my PC for besides basic things like word processing and internet
This isnt an attack on Mac's but a genuine question
What makes Mac's so great?
Ive never used one so i wouldnt know

Mac OS has always had an easier user interface. You can get around the system very easy, and nothing is hidden from you (this explains the one button mice). The Operating System, as I started out it's easy to use. But the other thing is that it's very powerful mainly because of how it's built, so it's the best of both worlds (easy and powerful).
The other thing is really the packaging of the hardware, you can open a Mac up get to where you want and close it back up. A PC still has the stupid design where the motherboard is in the case and often the part you are trying to reach is blocked by someting else.
I would mention more software, but really the only thing I've used is iTunes. I've been looking to get my system upgraded and running 10.3 and install iLife which I hear only good reviews about.

Am i right in saying that Mac's dont use the x86 processor architecture?
is that why a 2 GHz Mac is just as good as a 3 GHz PC?

Ok Ihave been thinking about getting a Mac but,
What does the intel in them now mean?
Could I still use it for college with Mac OS and some one can still read the doc in Word, or could I have a dual os setup, or just run boot camp?
The black cost more cause it has a 80gig not a 60gig like the white one and it is $200 more.

No all the new Macs use Intel chips. Also the speed is kind of variable. All but the Mac Minis come standard with Core Duo chips (two cores), so on any application that supports SMP (like most Apple software) it will run faster. Also keep in mind that the Intel Core series are all 64bit chips so comparing it to a Pentium 4 really isn't fair.Extreme_Jesus wrote:Am i right in saying that Mac's dont use the x86 processor architecture?

@kidw/32+systems, Yeah you can use a Mac for school. The only thing that a Mac really is unable to be used for is gaming. Then thats where you have bootcamp for, I think that is the only reason it was released - for gamers.

Good cause I hate pc games so it looks like I'll have to save up for the 13'' white one, why would they even have a black one if you have a Mac you want to show it off it all its whiteness.Sparkfist wrote:...@kidw/32+systems, Yeah you can use a Mac for school. If you were to buy Microsoft Office once it comes out in a Universal Binary (fully optimized for Intel Macs), then you would have no problems at all with compatibility. There is more than just Bootcamp to run Windows, Parallel Workstation is one program that doesn't even require a reboot.kidw/32+systems wrote:Ok Ihave been thinking about getting a Mac but,

And the black technically costs $150 more because if you were to take the $1299 white one, then upgrade it to an 80 GB drive, it would only cost $1349, not $1499. It's still a mystery as to why they would do this... (or how much people will complain...)
I'll get one of the $1299 white ones if I can make enough money this summer!

normally im a big fan of black gadgets, as the row of black boxes below my desk will testify, but i cant help but find black laptops really ugly. i have no idea why.
to me it just doesnt look right.
what advantage does the glossy screen offer? is it a quality improvement? ive only ever seen one glossy screen, and while at first my magpie instinct took over and was impressed with the shinyness, i quickly released that it was annoyingly reflective.
