Wii! split! what?
Ok while i bet many of ou will be skeptical about his but i plan on maing a Wii shaped controller for my Gamecube, how will i emulate gyro motion you ask? i plan on adding a weight or something to the joystiq ( hehe joystiq) without the rubber thing of course and flipping the thing upside down so pointing up pushes it down and its registered as up since its upside down, least i hope so
onw i ask of you this, how'd you guys split your controllers for your GCp? While i won't split similar to you guys i haven't split a controller and i really have no idea how to split controllers. Yes i've searched but this forum's search feature really gives me irrevalent results

To split a controller, generally, you cut off the part with the buttons...scrape the green/white stuff off the copper traces...wire to those traces. Then, you solder those wires to the traces or pins on the other part of the controller board.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

hey gamevler i see you've made a GCp, can you show me a pic of how you split you controller? ( i know its not going to be the same but I took apart my intec controller and there were so many leads it was crazy)
also, on the reverse side of the controller its brown, as in no solder mask, no connections on it nothing
And lastly how do you cut apart your controllers?

anyhow, what did you use to split the board? i really want a really precise cut other wise i fear it'll be a complete mess
I use scissors. You can use a jigsaw also, just make sure you wear a mask, PCBs can be poisonous.
I always just used the cutting wheel on my dremel. It's neat and precise and won't crack the PCB like scissors can (speaking from experience).
Hehe. Last night I found using a cutting wheel for the dremel goes slower than a jigsaw, and is a bit messier and releases more toxin chemicals. So do it outside if you're going to do it with a dremel.
In fact, do it outside even if you're doing it otherwise.
PS: It isn't so much the PCB chemicals are toxic dry, but when you melt the inbetween layer of a PCB (fast moving dremel) then it releases gases.

I was just thinking of a way to detect gyro the cheap way, Mercury switches! They work perfectly well for bombs...
Seriosuly though, if you could position the switches correctly, when you move your portable around, it would sense you are moving left, right, up down, etc.
