Nintendo is going to lose a ton of sales because of this name change. But that means the prices will lower and that means that I can buy the 'Wii' and still have money left over.
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

I'm cheap. In fact I'm very, very cheap - especially where portable consoles are concerned. Despite all of this I was seriously considering purchasing a Nintendo Revolution. Indeed I was most definitely going to buy one.

Now I will not.

Listen; it isn't just the hardware or the software that makes a game console great, it's the experience. The sum of the experience is not just hardware and software, but also the look of the device, how it smells when you open the box, how awesome the advertising, and the sense of accomplishment and wealth one gets from ownership. I simply would not stoop low enough to buy something called the Wii.

Furthermore, third party developers determine which consoles to focus on partly by the projected success of the consoles. If these companies look at Wii and think, "Why would anyone buy a console named after taking-a-piss?" they will avoid that console. The second reason I will not buy a Wii is because I question the third party support of the platform.

At least the Revolution will make a nice portable...

Maybe not, seeing as it has gyroscopic controllers and such. I know it's ben discussed.

But it IS the smallest next-gen system. It'd be nice to put into your car or something.

Naming their system the "Wii" will NOT reduce sales significantly. All you people are whining now, but I know most of you will still go out and buy one. Remember the Gamecube? I do. All it had was "Kiddy games" and it didn't have any games that appealed to older kids. Nintendo then saw their mistake (late, as usual) and decided to release some better games.

Nintendo is just a n00b. They'll be all "Oh crap we better do something about this..." and fix it.

Is it really that Nintendo wants to appeal to the younger market (which they have ALL TO THEMSELVES, think about it for a second. Children with their easily-changed minds and their parents loving money at their disposal.) or is it that We've just outgrown what they've always been giving us?

The spelling was ran through spell check so it shouldent be that bad.

NO ONE outgrows Mario!

Anyhow, I must politely disagree about Nintendo's share of the child gaming market. Whenever I walk into Gamestop I see hordes of little midget punks trying to mimic their favorite stereotypical TV role models - and all of them huddled around PS2 or Xbox shelves. You see, they are all 'too cool' to get Nintendo products. As far as I can tell, society is changing but Nintendo stubbornly refuses to.

EDIt: Yeah!!! (high-fives gamemasterAS) WOO :o

I think some of you are over-reacting to this. Wasn't the GameCube originally called the "Dolphin" or something? Jeez it's just a name...

... a great name to make fun of! :P

http://wiiwtf.ytmnd.com/

I probably won't buy one anyways. I wasn't ever planning to. I'd either hold out for the PS3 or just get a decent PC. I really don't spend as much time playing video games as I used to (the free time I do have is mostly spend outside. You know, that place with no ceiling?), and it's not really worth it (to me at least) to spend x amount of money on something that JUST does games. Throw in an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player and built ion support for the games I already own (none of this "download it for [however many dollars] a game buisness), and I can sort of justify paying for something to add to my stereo equipment stack. But for something that plugs into the TV so I can wave a controller around from 10 feet away, it's not worth the price to me.

lol would be such a better name than Wii  . as teraflop122 said, 3rd party game makers make software for consoles depending on how well they think it will sell. Wii is a stupid name, nobody's gonna make games for such a stupid-named console, it makes it sound like a baby console  . nintendo better change it

Really? Could you tell me more about this "outside"? :D
I wasn't really planning on buying any of the new systems because of limited cash. "Wii" might still do good, but a better name would help a lot.

Look I know a lot of you here are not fan-boys. So the idea that you're flat out not going to buy a Wii (that word!) is silly. When I first heard about the Xbox I thought I'd never buy one... then I played Halo. So you will change you're tone once we hear about some third party games that will be released.

As for seeing that stupid name. We could always just go and have a vinal sticker made that says "Revolution" on it and lay it over the "Wii" logo.

Honestly, I do kind of doubt that it will make a huge difference, probably less than .01%. Most people, including myself, make these choices based on the games and stuff like that. The name of the console is probably one of, if not the least important things about it when it becomes the time to buy. Like in good ol' Romeo and Juliet,
