SNES Power Supply Question

Post by nes_newbie »

The way i am doing this snes portable is real simple, but i have to ask , i am gonna use a Rechargeable R/C Battery to power the unit with. 7.2V 2000 or 3000mAh. my question is this , Do I still Remove the 7805 and replace it with a LDO in the snes or can i simply solder the Battery connector to it . i am stuck only on this part of the project right now.If anyone can tell me where i need to solder the Battery pack Connector and what i need to do it , it would help me a lot.

Thanks

If you are using a 7.2V battery I don't see any point in replacing the 7805 with a ldo :)

YES thats the awnser that i was hoping for , so i can just solder the battery connector to the 7805? the diagram i have of the 7805 shows it having 3 points , correct me if i am wrong , but i would want to connect the battery pack to the Positive side of it right?

yep, the left pin on the 7805 is Vin and the middle pin is ground. You might want to check this out before trying it though, I haven't worked with the snes in awhile.

a 7805 is a 7805 is a 7805. The left is 7.2-36 volts in, the middle is ground, and the right is 5 volts out. Also, if you replace it with a LDO I think it will have better efficiency, if you want to squeeze a few more minutes from your batteries.

I Don't Mean to sound like a retard but what is a Vin? And is it used for anything?

I was going to post something but Spongebuell said it first, so I just deleted my original post............(it was about the battery life being longer with an ldo)
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Vin is Voltage in (7.2 to 36 volts) I'd say it's used

anyway, your diagram is correct, assuming the writing is on top

man you guys are helpful

on the 7805 will i be using just 2 of the 3 or all 3 of the three , if i have to connect the battery pack to all 3 of them then i guess this http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?c ... Fid=23-444 will not work. as i said this is my first portable, so thank you for the patience.

And I have to get something else clear that i think i might have some understanding about, if i can ever figure the battery part out that is , when i go to hook up my pocket tv monitor to the nes do i just hook it to the Ground,Video & Audio pinouts or do one of them have to go to power supply to the battery pack?

So if i am understanding you correctly the Tv monitor & the battery pack both have to be soldered to the 7805 right?

No. The monitor takes in the 7.2 Volts unmodified. It has its own 7805 inside of it.

What you do is connect the screen and the SNES's 7805 to the same source.

+7.2 V..............................Ground...

..+---7805(5V out to SNES)---+......

Warranty-Voiding fun!
