extending volume buttons

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

extending volume buttons

Post by daguuy »

i need to wire on new volume buttons because that's how my case is but it's hard to tell which traces/pins to solder to on the PSone screen board. it looks like Gamelver did it. which pins on the tact switches should i connect the new buttons to? i already tried looking for the traces they connect to but they're hard to find...

I believe they are labeled on the back daguuy, a small solder spot much like the audio l, r, video, gnd etc etc aboce the slot connectors. they're marked with b+ b- (brightness) v+ v- (volume) I'm sure you could use your multimeter on those points then probe the tact switches

I'm lazy so instead of finding the trace, I just turn the volume up on the screen to maximum and solder a 50k variable resistor to the red wire going to the speaker and use that as the volume control.
I've often found if people spend less time worrying about what someone the other side of the world has posted on an internet forum and more time getting laid, they'll be a lot less tense.

That's more work than just trying to follow the trace. It'll also drain your battery faster than if you were to just use the volume control buttons...

Not really, if you're relocating the speaker you've got to run the wires to wherever you're putting the speaker so it makes perfect sense to add a 50K variable resistor while you're on.

It won't use more power. You're taking the resistance out of one part of the circuit (i.e. by turning the volume up loud) and then putting it back into another so it all works out the same. Ohm's law if you like.
