Hey Ive been checking this obsessively for a while and finally decided that I should just join the forum and actually get involved. :D Just hoping that the news drought is due to all of the hard work and amazing progress being made, it would crush my soul if this was scrapped. :p anyways, I'm assuming that were looking on at a 2013 release at this point?

Very cool work, again, by Marshall. I didn't realize N64 could do that!

I might be daft but have 2 questions... After installing this board, how do I access the audio? And why not DVI instead of VGA?

Still looking at this thread everyday

Well, this board only changes the video from 15khz RGB to VGA. It doesn't handle (as far as I know) audio. You would still take it from the same spot you always have; but taking the video from the FPGA instead.

By the way, I have some noob questions. How does the FPGA know if the N64 is running 240p or 480i; does it just count the number of pixels per Hsync or am I missing something? Just curious.

What kind of output delay would we be dealing with here? I'm assuming it would be negligible, maybe a frame or two at most, but i'm curious. anymays, this thread could use a bump

small update, I did a board respin some time ago

Currently moving to a single DVI-I connector that'll let you use an adapter to get both VGA and HDMI if you want them

It's really nice to see you're still on the project marshallh.
I understand that you must have man,y other things to do :)
But would you be able to give us a average date for the release ?
Will you take preorders ?
And of course, do you know how many it could costs ?
I hope i don't bother you with my questions.
And thank you for your job !

that purple solder mask looks royally pimpin' with the gold plating.

What board house are you using?

did you move from QFP to BGA, or the other way around?

are you personally reflowing all of your boards?

Moving from QFP to BGA on things that make sense. I have a reflow oven so after tweaking the heat profile for the particular board it's really easy

Just to let you know Marshall that ill be ordering one as soon as youve finished it!
I've got another question - I noticed that the audio output of the N64 is listed as L+R and L-R. Does anyone bother to convert this into L and R for hifi systems / portables etc.? How would be the best way to go about it? I can only think of using an audio transformer or using an op-amp buffer..

DVI huh, that's actually a better idea since most TV's have an HDMI port now days and will for a few decades at least. This will be perfect for those hotel room TV's that can't accept low res composite signals as well. Not to mention since it's a direct digital signal there's not much conversion going on.

Also I love the new design, more slick and to the point rather than jagged, I like it, I like it a lot, can't wait to see these things out soon enough, keep up the great work Marshall!
