Cool, I started to build a portable just like this. Mine looks nowhere as good as yours (haven't finished soldering the parts together or even touched the case) I used all of the same parts except for an off-brand PSOne Screen that I'm afraid to LED mod.

Your right I don't know if its the 7805's that fried but since I didn't hear anything snap crackle or pop, I thought replacing them would be a good place to start.

well, I got rid of all things that look like shorts... does the flux inside solder short things out, or is it not conductive?

I just bought a ZN-40 and PSOne Screen look-a-like from polycase and eBay, respectively. I was getting my cutting utensils out to make it fit in the case when I surprisingly found out that I didn't need to cut the screen up. :o
