Re: Guide to frontlight a Gameboy Color
Your distributor is pulling your leg, then. Nintendo doesn't make gameboy color screen cover replacements anymore, and the screen covers never looked like that. Those are quite clearly reproductions. Look at how spaced out the "color" text is.

Re: Guide to frontlight a Gameboy Color
The screen covers are original. They look odd because they have a plastic film over them. It just caught the light in my photos.
Original as in genuine, or made by you? Because authentic ones don't have protective plastic on them.

Re: GBA SP in a Game Boy Pocket case?
I would suggest doing a GBP backlight mod! I have done several, you can make your own LED backlight, buy premade ones, or if you are super hardcore, you can use an electroluminescent panel (As far as I know, I am the only person to pull that particular way off).
EL backlighting has been done a ...

Re: Guide to frontlight a Gameboy Color
The battery life feels the same to me so no need to worry about in draining batteries.
It feels the same? You'll probably find the added current draw is considerably higher if you do a multimeter test. Probably somewhere around 20% or more.
It's more efficient to shape the panel down and put it ...

Re: Custom screen for DMG
The gameboy pocket screen is the only real alternative. It's possible, and has been done, but it'll be somewhat of a pain to wire, and won't be a straight up swap.

Re: Dmg/Gbc external LED mod
Wormlights suck.
An led mod would look better.
You mean an external LED mod like he was considering doing or internal? Internal would not look better (in my opinion, at least), and a wormlight is just an external LED. A DIY alternative would be much more annoying than just spending 3 bucks on a ...

Re: Dmg/Gbc external LED mod
No modifications are necessary. You can get a wormlight for less than it would cost you to buy LEDs and a link cable.
I'm not sure if they made them for the DMG, though, but you could use an adapter.

Re: DMG Modding
I don't mean to be discouraging, but you will not, under any circumstances, get good results with using pcb mount LEDs. They're not designed for front lighting, you need something else to distribute the light. The only practical way to do this would be like I said, make it external and have the led ...

Re: DMG Frontlight
That's not really going to work. If you need the screen lit up with a normal LED, you should make it external and use the 5v (with a resistor, of course) from the link port.
