This begs the question: how was the lockout chip oriented when you soldered it in?

It was upside down in relation to the rest of the board.

Was the writing facing you or away from you? If the writing was facing you, I'm pretty sure you soldered the lockout chip backwards.

To confirm, the v1 and v2 boards are identical.

Sadly, with my v2 FC16, adding the lockout chip from a working game, moving the solder blobs on SW2 and SW3, and adding a 2.2 cap did not work -- The unit would not boot any game with it in that config.

I tried getting it to work by putting the blobs ...

I did open it up, and it does still support the lockout chip. Comparing pictures of the v1 board to the v2, I would say they are nearly identical.

I smell full compatibility on this thing! Get a Super NES lockout from a crappy Sports title, and off you go! Full compatibility with all games, including those with the SA-1 co-processor.
