The Future of Videogames Part 4, 2007 Edition

According to the Mayan calendar and Mel Gibson, every 2 years when the sun reaches its winter solstice I must write an article in which I predict the “Future of Gaming”. (It’s true, you can find cave paintings about it)

Much like this dude, I am going to dish out the future

So here it is – “The Future of Videogaming 2007 Edition”. A lot of it is probably redundant if you’re familiar with our opinions in the podcast, but now you can see them as words. Includes obvious predictions for new 2008 models of the Xbox and Wii. Enjoy and have a safe and fun New Year’s…

Update on the lack of updates

Lately you may have noticed I haven’t had a lot of new projects on this site, just podcasts. This doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on anything, it just means I haven’t had a lot to show the world as most of my stuff these days is covered under various NDA’s.

So I just wanted to give you all a head’s up that I should have some new stuff up soon, hopefully after the New Year, and some long-suffering projects such as the Xbox laptop 3 or Commodore 64 Original Hardware laptop will be done sooner than later as well. In the meantime, continue to enjoy our podcasts and look for the usual bi-yearly “Future of Videogaming” article before 2007 is over.

For a good laugh you can also check out the Myspace page for our awesome Rock band group “Power Supply”!

Benheck.com Podcast 35 – Holiday Special 2007

It’s that time of the year again for Holiday Special podcast!

(All the naughty kids get PS3's)
Santa Claus, in a mad delusional rage over Wii Vouchers, turns to drinking in this newswire photo

First, pour yourself some eggnog, sit by the fire and listen to our heartwarming intro “Video Pirates Save Christmas”. If you’re wondering what happened to the promised “It’s a Wonderful Half-Life”, well, once again I couldn’t get that script to work. Oh well, it gave us a reason to bring the video pirates back.

Next, indulge yourself in our amazing topics. First up is”Long Delayed Games”, in honor of the Duke Nukem Forever teaser coming out this week. Then we discuss “Is CGI Destroying the Movies?”, a commentary on the overuse and cost of special effects and how they still don’t look as real as Cecille B. DeMille actually lining up 10,000 people behind Charlton Heston.

Finally we hand out our “Game of the Year” awards. Beyond the normal and boring categories such as “Best Game” and “Graphics” we also give out nods for “Most Obvious Betrayal Scene”, “Least Crappy Ending” and other interesting acheivements. Enjoy and have a happy New Year…

How to improve the Rock Band guitar strummer

Wii will rock you
Our awesome band “Power Supply”

I really enjoy Rock Band, just yesterday some friends and I actually did that “Endless Setlist” thing (FYI it takes about 5.5 hours, including breaks) but the strummer on the Rock Band guitar does leave something to be desired. At first I appreciated the fact that it didn’t click, then realized it made high-speed accuracy harder.

Being, well, myself, I decided to get in there and see if it could be improved. What follows are the easy instructions to do it yourself and finally shut up your friends who swear by that Les Paul from GHIII (like Jones does).
